Additional guidelines for Non-Governmental Organizations and private expeditions are provided in the management plan, in order to improve coordination between the National Programs operating in the area and non-governmental visitors to Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, and to inform visitors about on-site resources, expectations, and hazards.
Additional Guidelines for the Scientific Zone are provided for each Sector in order to manage the different scientific activities taking place.
Please note: the guidelines and maps as they appear in the adopted Management Plan are not fully current in 2012-13 because of a range of logistical changes at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station over recent years.
Those proposing to visit the South Pole are directed to the maps provided on this website, which provide the most up-to-date arrangements for approach routes, aircraft parking and camping at the South Pole by non-governmental expeditions. In the interim of these guidelines being formally adopted by the Antarctic Treaty Parties, all visitors are requested to voluntarily follow these guidelines.
